biom residency / A Meditation on Impermanence

Vanishing Acts is a story of community, memory, and transformation. it traces the quiet dissolution of shared spaces and the shifting bonds that shape the village of Phey, Ladakh.

Through a series of images, klusters—amorphous 3D forms—hover and dissolve, moving through abandoned rooms and open doorways. They embody change as a process of becoming, marking the gradual separation of once-unified communities.
Eventually, the klusters drift apart, leaving behind faint impressions—traces of communal ties slowly unraveling. Their dissolution mirrors broader environmental and social shifts, reflecting how modernisation reshapes both landscapes and ways of living.

What disappears is not lost.
What separates leaves behind a trace.
This is a story of how things fall apart—and come together again, transformed.

As the forms pull apart, they reflect not only the shifting architecture of the village, but also the reshaping of relationships, routines, and the land itself.
Once pressed shoulder to shoulder, Phey’s homes embraced the warmth of collective life. Now, threads stretch outward as villagers embrace independence, shaping fresh landscapes and solitary dwellings. The klusters—fluid, delicate, fleeting—reflect this shift, like reflections caught in puddles, shimmering only for a moment before dissolving.

the river
In the final act, visitors step into its current—
a soft projection cast on cloth that moves with the air.
The clusters have moved on,
but the river remains.

Take a Piece, Send It Back
At the end of Vanishing Acts, visitors are invited to take home a fragment of the project—a cyanotype postcard, part of a limited-edition set created from two unique designs. Each design has been broken into 8 pieces, making every postcard a small but essential part of a larger whole.
These cyanotypes are born from a quiet contradiction: digital 3D klusters rendered with pixel perfection have been pulled into the tactile world through a process of surrender. Cyanotype, with its organic imperfection, lets these digital forms breathe—soaked in sunlight, water, and time.

klusters
They gather, they hold.
They drift, they dissolve.
Once pressed together—
like hands, like voices, like homes.
Now stretching, thinning, moving apart—
not lost, just shifting.
They hover in doorways,
linger in corners,
rest in the quiet between walls.
A breath of what was.
A whisper of what’s becoming.
Hold them in your eye,
and they will remain.
Turn away,
and they are already gone.
